I have completed 6 Global Learning courses. These courses are important as they each teach you different issues around the world and ways to deal with them. These courses were an aid to me becoming more globally aware in many aspects.

Studies In World Religion

In the spring of 2023 I took a class in World Religion. During this class I as exposed to many religions and the places that they came from. I learned about their values and norms. Hinduism and Islam were two religions where I learned the most since those were the religions assigned to me. I learned about the laws within these religions and how people continue to believe in them. The holidays and the pilgrimages people are required to fulfill before they perish. I also got insight of where people go when they do die depending on their religion.

Societies in The World

In the Fall of 2022, I took Societies in The World. This class was about different ways of living amongst tribes and religious groups and more. I was able to learn why tribes in Uganda do what they do and are able to live off the land like they do. We learned about the lack of technology in different groups around the world and why they believe that they do not need it. We learned about how globalization can be both a good thing and a bad thing. It can make us all connected but it can also take away from the cultural norms people have been living by for years before us.

International Protection of Human Rights

I took the International Protection of Human Rights in the spring of 2023. This class was able to teach be about the things people in 3rd world countries go through at the hands of those in the west. I was able to see the truth behind our smartphones and electric cars. The cobalt issues in the Congo and the Firestone exploitation in the forest of Liberia were all ways that we benefit from the violation of human rights. This class allowed me to do my own research on these topics and come up with potential solutions to these problems. It is easier said then done but it helped me become aware of the things I use and where they might be coming from.

Visual Design Global Media

I took Visual Design and Global Media in the fall of 2021. In this Global Learning course I was able to learn about the ways we can display what is going in the world. The tools learned in this course could help me in the future when reporting news or starting a international relations blog. I now know how to report news and make visuals of international events in an appropriate way. I was able to see examples of how other media outlets show their viewers information and correct information. Misinformation is something that is growing in our society as we get more digital so this class was able to help me spot those mistakes in other media outlets and avoid them in those of my own.
